Medical cannabis company Itopia Life Ltd is set to host its first educational session on prescribing medical ganja. The session is being led by renowned cannabinoid expert Dr Danial Schecter and will be held at the JAMPRO boardroom today at 4 p.m.

Itopia Life says Dr Schecter's vast experience in the field will inform local health providers about how cannabinoids can be used as an effective treatment.

"We believe more Jamaicans should have access to the health benefits of ganja in the regulated industry," said Joan 'Nanook' Webley, Itopia Life president. "Historically, we've used it for decades as traditional medicine. In order to transition to the medical ganja industry, we need more doctors and pharmacists aware of how to prescribe the CBD extract for specific ailments."

MEDICAL WONDER

CBD is short for cannabidiol, one of the many chemical compounds of ganja that has been proven to be a medical wonder. It has shown to stunt cancer cell growth and reduce seizures and is a great anti-inflammatory.

Dr Schecter's strong interest in cannabinoid medicine led to the founding of the Canabo Medical Clinic, Canada's largest referral-only clinic specialising in medical cannabis. He is heavily involved in education and outreach within the medical cannabis space through education, research and consulting. He has trained thousands of physicians and pharmacists on how to help patients decide if cannabis is right for them.

Itopia Life says advocacy is at the heart of its core values as "public education is what will effect a paradigm shift in Jamaica's ganja industry".

Itopia Life, along with Epican, will also be the presenting sponsor of CaribCan, a Caribbean cannabis policy conference that is part of Rebel Salute 2019.
