‘To me it’s just a number’: McDonald's worker celebrating her 100th birthday, requests birthday cards
Ruthie Shuster has been serving up smiles for more than a quarter-century at McDonald’s in Irwin, Pennsylvania.
She is turning 100 soon and is so popular, the flood of birthday cards she has been receiving requires a special mailbox just for her.
Her family said she would love to receive birthday cards marking her century milestone.
Ruthie works three days a week wiping down tables and greeting customers.
She misses the crowds of customers and her after-work activities.
“I go dancing four days a week. Can’t go dancing now, there are no dances around,” Shuster said.
When asked about retirement, Shuster said “I became a widow when I was 50 and I’ve been working ever, ever, ever since, and I like working."
Shuster said turning 100 is no big deal.
“To me, it’s just a number.”
Shuster truly gets joy from being around people and many ask her why she loves her job so much.
“I get payday! I get paid, I pay my bills, and that’s good. I never had a lot of money, but I always had enough, that’s the way it is,” Shuster said.
Shuster’s birthday is March 3 and the Irwin McDonald’s is expecting many more birthday cards.
You can leave a birthday card for Shuster at her mailbox at the Irwin McDonald’s located at 9061 Lincoln Hwy, North Huntingdon, PA 15642.
