PASCO, Wash. — More than 130 of Washington’s best truck drivers will gather at Gesa Stadium on Saturday, April 12, for the Washington Truck Driving Championship, hosted by the Washington Trucking Associations.
The annual event kicks off at 6 a.m. and features a written exam, a pre-trip inspection, and a skills test.
Winners from the state-level competition will move on to the National Truck Driving Championship, set for August 20 to August 23 at the Minneapolis Convention Center in Minnesota.
Also known as the “Super Bowl of Safety,” the national competition has been held since 1937 and showcases the industry’s focus on safety, professionalism, and driving skills.
Drivers compete in nine different equipment classes, including:
Straight Truck
Three-Axle Tractor-Semitrailer
Four-Axle Tractor-Semitrailer
Five-Axle Tractor-Semitrailer
Sleeper Berth
Tank Truck
Flatbed
Twin Trailers
Step Van
To qualify, drivers must be employed with a motor carrier for at least one year and maintain an accident-free record during that time.
“This championship is one of the largest and most effective safety programs in the industry,” organizers said. “It not only celebrates skill but reinforces a culture of safety in commercial driving.”
