Qatar wins international road safety award

London: The State of Qatar has won the Prince Michael Award for Traffic Safety at the ceremony in London, where the award was received by Brigadier General Engineer Mohammed Abdullah Al Malki, Secretary of the National Committee for Traffic Safety.

The award reflects the high level of development in the State of Qatar in terms of safety and curbing of traffic accidents. In recent years it has been able to occupy a world-class location in the field of traffic safety and sustainable transport, which has been nominated for this award.

It also confirms the scientific understanding of the requirements to reduce the traffic problems identified by the United Nations as a disaster threatening modern societies and the development of practical field mechanisms to help them and to create a relationship with the international community and the United Nations to share successful global experiences.

The State of Qatar won this award due to the great support it enjoys in the traffic safety to build a safe and sustainable national transport system and the State of Qatar through membership of the United Nations Global Road Safety Cooperation as well as the establishment of the National Committee for Traffic Safety as a leading institution in the country headed by HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior as well as the National Strategy for Comprehensive Traffic Safety 2013-2022 and the 2022 comprehensive and ambitious goals, besides the establishment of the National Traffic Safety Bureau, as a specialized body to evaluate, follow up implementation and provide consultation on the basis of modern scientific foundations and through qualified and registered cadres globally. And adopt the relevant UN resolutions and implement the requirements of the Qatar 2022 World Cup and the Qatar 2030 Vision.

The State of Qatar has adopted the so-called "global safe system" to meet the requirements of rapidly growing countries like Qatar and developing countries. It also adopted modern scientific research methods, effective initiatives by the National Bureau of Traffic Safety, as well as the possibility of applying the experience of the State of Qatar globally to assist developing countries.

And the launch of the second implementation plan 2018-2022, which includes 394 plan and 33 parties.

The Prince Michael Award will contribute to promoting the State of Qatar and will positively reflect on meeting the requirements of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, as it meets one of the conditions set by the International Federation of Football (FIFA) for traffic safety and sustainable transport and the implementation of sustainable development goals to meet the requirements of the State and society. 

Since 1987 our Awards have given public recognition to those who have improved road safety throughout Britain. Now the Prince Michael International Road Safety Awards recognise outstanding achievement and innovation worldwide.
