The 'world's longest'  3D-printed footbridge has opened in China today after being built in 35 days.

The 15-metre-long bridge, made from resin and other composite material, opens to the public in Taopu Smart City Central Park in Shanghai today.

Engineers took 35 days to "print" the structures before aligning them together piece by piece.

"The footbridge could be used for up to 30 years", said Chen Xiaoming, deputy chief engineer at Shanghai Construction Engineering Machinery Group.

The material used passed the quality standard test set by the government and it can also withstand all weather conditions.

Videos emerged showing members of the public standing on the grey arched bridge.

The bridge - measuring 15.25 metres long, 3.8 metres wide and 1.2 metres high - passed all pressure tests and loading tests.

Mr Chen explained that 3D printers can create a S-shaped structures which help to consolidate the base of the bridge.

It's said that the loading weight per square metre is about 250 kilograms, which is about the weight of four adults, reported China Daily.

The company stressed that the bridge printing project "reduces labour costs and improves civilised construction", they said in the press release.

This system is mainly composed of a 3-axis gantry structure, a 6-axis high-precision industrial robot, and a high-speed extrusion device (CNC nozzle), allowing for more accurate and larger 3D printed structures.

It is believed the footbridge will be crowned the world's longest 3D-printed bridge, as compared to the one in Netherlands, which measured eight metres long.
